Reginald Ossei; also known as Reggie Rockstone, 'the God-Father of hiplife', a Ghanaian music genre which is a fusion of authentic Ghanaian lyrics with a mixture of traditional Ghanaian language and hip-hop instrumentals believes Ghana music has not done enough justice to HipLife as a genre. To right this wrong, Reggie is about to embark on organizing the first ever hiplife music awards in Ghana.

Today my piece will be on Spoken Word; a form of poetry that often uses alliterated prose or verse and occasionally uses metered verse to talk about happenings in a society. This style of poetry is mainly in the first person singular and generally from the poet’s point of view, it is mostly themed on personal or current events. In entertainment, spoken word performances generally consist of storytelling or poetry. Noted practitioners of this art form are Hedwig Gorski, Gil Scott Heron, Spalding Gray and well known Ghanaian born spoken poets like Kwame Dawes and Mutombo The Poet on whom much will be revealed in this piece.

Ghanaian born Virgil Afortor was one of the many Africans who filled out forms to participate in the US Diversity Visa Lottery (USDVL) program in 2008 with high hopes of winning. Winning the lottery and gaining permanent legal residency in the USA was not the most important to Virgil, but also making sense of his opportunities so it  has a far reaching benefit not only for himself, but for the family that he has back home in Ghana was of equal importance.

Before taking a chance in the USDVL Virgil completed his high school education in Ghana at the coastal city of Tema in 1997. He went to Chemu Senior High School where he majored in the Sciences. From Chemu he pursued a degree pathway in Information Technology with the IPMC College of Technology affiliated to the mother institution in the United Kingdom and graduated with an International Diploma in Computer Studies.

The Republic of Zambia, one of Africa's landlocked countries in the southern hemisphere of the continent is experiencing a Hip Hop wave in its music industry. Leading this wave is one of the country's top Hip Hop group known as Zone Fam. In 2009 Zone Fam burst onto the African and Zambian music scene with their first mix tape which was produced by Nigerian Producer Teck-Zilla.

Akua Adoma Memorial Hope Foundation to create brain tumor awareness in Ghana

The family of the deceased Akua Adoma Ofori, a female Ghanaian teenage student who was flown to the USA to seek medical treatment for a tumor lodged in her brain has established a foundation; The Akua Adoma Memorial Hope Foundation, in her memory. The sole objective of the foundation will be to provide medical assistance to young children in need of critical surgery from complications in the brain. Akua passed away on July 24 2011, in Pennsylvania (PA) USA.
